The Lactoferrin Difference

What is Lactoferrin?

Lactoferrin is an immune system protein commonly found in the milk of mammals, including humans. It can also be found in other fluids in the body such as saliva, tears, mucus, and bile where it provides special front line immunity. However, it is found in the highest amounts in colostrum, the first type of breast milk produced after a baby is born. While Lactoferrin is derived from milk, it contains no lactose. The main functions of Lactoferrin in the body include binding with and transporting iron, while providing numerous benefits to overall health.1

Health Benefits of Lactoferrin

Supplements containing Lactoferrin provide numerous advantages to our health. Lactoferrin may strengthen your innate immunities, also known as your body’s first line of defense against foreign invaders. Lactoferrin aids in stimulating your overall immune system. It plays an important role in protecting your body from pathogenic microorganisms such a bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Lactoferrin has also reported to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. Lactoferrin is generally considered safe when taken as recommended. However, excessive doses may cause fatigue and mild constipation.
